Project Title
Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) process optimization for throughput improvement/cost reduction
Project Description
In a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment, maximizing fab throughput at low cost is a key enabler to remain competitive, especially with the increasing demand for memory chips powering technology and AI advancement. Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) relies heavily on slurries and consumables such as polishing pads, disks, and cleaning chemicals in daily operations. Innovative ideas must be continuously generated from both process and hardware perspectives to drive best-in-class performance and operational excellence.
Scope
The student will experience a real-life process and equipment engineer role with exposure to fab operation/statistical data analysis tools in a high-volume, fully automated semiconductor manufacturing environment. They will collaborate with an experienced process engineer to perform design of experiments (DoE) for CMP process/equipment characterization and optimization on advanced leading CMP tools; conduct technical analyses to generate insights from data and provide recommendations. Work will comprise a mix of desk work and on-site work at the point of operation. They will also participate in team meetings, discussions, and various company-wide and team bonding events/activities.
Deliverables
- Characterization data analysis, execution, and implementation of optimized CMP process conditions/recipes for maximizing throughput or lowering operation costs without compromising safety and product quality.
Impact
Improve workstation and overall fab capacity, and reduce manufacturing costs.
Skillset Required
- General problem solving, data analytics, basic software knowledge (e.g., MS PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
