Role Overview

Wealth Planning Consultant (WPC) / Senior Wealth Planning Consultant (SWPC) for High Net Worth and Ultra High Net Worth clients. Works collaboratively with Investment Advisors to develop and deliver a client-focused wealth planning experience culminating in a documented wealth strategy. Engages in the end-to-end wealth planning process—from discovery and financial planning analysis to the development of high-value financial plans and client presentations. Aims to generate increased asset levels and deepen client relationships while supporting regional and national growth through a disciplined approach to wealth management strategies and exceptional client experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate goals-based discovery with clients; ensure data capture and plan creation standards are met to maintain effective knowledge management.
  • Develop detailed and complex financial plans to help clients meet objectives; conduct client presentations as required.
  • Implement strategies to broaden services and contribute to business growth while helping clients achieve personal goals.
  • Develop internal/external networks and referral sources to grow business within the region.
  • Ensure the region’s client experience standards for financial planning and relationship development are met.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the assigned business/group; assist in strategic plan development.
  • Identify emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making; support strategic initiatives with stakeholders.
  • Help determine business priorities and sequencing for execution of strategy; conduct independent analysis to resolve strategic issues.
  • Collaborate with Investment Advisors on the development and delivery of HNW management solutions; raise awareness of Wealth Management Consultants in branches.
  • Leverage planning resources in taxation, estate & trust and succession planning to assess and provide client insights.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; break down strategic problems and provide data-driven insights.
  • Lead planning for clients with $1–$3 million in investable assets (WPC) and up to $5 million, with potential for larger portfolios; SWPC leads for $5–$7 million, up to $10 million as needed.
  • Provide coaching and training to Investment Advisors to support wealth management solutions; develop and execute sales campaigns and awareness articles.
  • Deliver proactive, integrated, and customized wealth planning advice; implement wealth planning strategies to help clients achieve goals.
  • Reinforce sales processes and client experience by identifying gaps and best practices to deliver complex wealth plans.
  • Demonstrate a consultative, collaborative selling approach to facilitate the client experience and business objectives.
  • Provide insights on advanced planning concepts, including tax, estate and succession planning, philanthropy, and other wealth services.
  • Adhere to banking, investment, and lending regulations, policies, and risk guidelines to protect assets.
  • Focus on business/group within BMO, with potential broader enterprise focus; provide specialized consulting and analytical support.
  • Exercise judgment to diagnose and solve problems within established rules; work independently on non-routine situations.

Qualifications

  • WPC: 1–3 years of relevant experience with a post-secondary degree in a related field.
  • SWPC: 3–5 years of relevant experience with a post-secondary degree in a related field.
  • Experience selling to Investment Advisors or HNW clients; experience in financial planning is an asset.
  • CFP designation (IQPF in Quebec) and MBA or related assets welcomed; LLB/LL.L/LL.M and Life Insurance designation are assets.
  • Working knowledge of financial planning software (NaviPlan a plus).
  • Designation as Trust & Estate Practitioner is an asset.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through education and experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; collaboration and teamwork; analytical and problem-solving abilities; influence skills; and data-driven decision making.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $65,600.00 – $122,600.00

Pay Type: Salaried

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type. Salaries vary based on location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications. May include a commission structure. For part-time roles, salary is pro-rated. For commission roles, the above represents the target for the first year.
