Job Description

Consider joining L.E.K. as a Summer Consultant if you are a bright, motivated first-year MBA student graduating in 2028 and interested in gaining insight into a consulting career while tackling some of the toughest and most interesting business problems.

The Consultant role is at the core of our case team structure. Coming from diverse backgrounds and using creative problem-solving and managerial skills, Consultants guide case teams to provide clients with insights with impact. You will make a difference by driving your team to deliver actionable advice and strategies to help clients win.

The internship kicks off with a week of training off site with peers from all of our U.S. offices, where you will learn the fundamentals of what it takes to be a successful Consultant at L.E.K. After training, you will spend approximately 8 weeks in your home office doing real casework as part of a team.

Consultants at L.E.K. are fully dedicated to a single project at a time and play a critical role in ensuring the team is addressing client problems and delivering the best answer.

As a Summer Consultant, you can expect to be staffed on 1–2 projects alongside a full-time Consultant, with similar primary responsibilities:

  • Breaking down and outlining the client’s key strategic issues
  • Designing and supervising the team’s core research tasks and analyses day-to-day
  • Developing presentations and other deliverable structure
  • Participating in the communication of project conclusions to client senior management
  • Providing guidance, mentorship, and feedback to more junior staff

Throughout the summer, you can expect to participate in:

  • Weekly check-in meetings with your case team manager to discuss your experience and feedback
  • Professional development sessions
  • A formal mentoring program
  • Fun social events with the entire office

Excellent Summer Consultants are awarded offers to return to L.E.K. as full-time Consultants after graduation, along with additional bonus incentives.

Why L.E.K.?

The Consultant role at L.E.K. is differentiated from other firms in several key ways:

  • Early management responsibility: Consultants have the opportunity to manage the case process and Associates (L.E.K. hires two undergraduates for every new Consultant).
  • Breadth of experiences: While projects span most industries and services, the focus is strategy and M&A. Consultants typically work on ~6–10 projects a year, providing greater exposure across clients and strategic issues, and faster development of business acumen.
  • Fun, stimulating work environment: L.E.K. teams spend substantially more time in their home office relative to teams at peer firms, and the firm prides itself on a vibrant social culture, including case team events, office parties, and non-profit involvement.
  • International exposure: Approximately one-third of L.E.K. projects involve an international component, allowing Consultants to work on international case teams or, if they choose, relocate to international offices on either a temporary or full-time basis.
  • Upward mobility: L.E.K. is a meritocracy with an entrepreneurial culture and frequent feedback, with rapid progression of responsibility to accelerate development.

Qualifications

While L.E.K. does not use a rigid checklist, the firm looks for a combination of attributes that provide an excellent foundation for a successful career, including leadership, drive, intellectual curiosity, analytical ability, teamwork, and uncompromising ethics.

As part of the selection process, candidates will be required to complete an online assessment. This enables L.E.K. to gain a more comprehensive understanding of each candidate’s skills, strengths, and potential.
