Trade and Customs Intern

Join Kroll's Global Trade and Customs Team and gain hands-on experience in the field of Transfer Pricing, Trade and Customs. We are seeking motivated, detail-oriented individuals to contribute as new joiners in our Trade and Customs Group.

The Trade and Customs Intern will contribute to a broad range of assignments, including conducting financial customs and tariff analyses, supporting international trade and customs projects, and performing global and country-specific industry research. The role also involves carrying out microeconomic analyses to help companies comply with customs and international trade regulations, optimize their supply chains, and reduce potential tariff exposure.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

  • Experience in trade compliance, customs, and Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ)
  • Ensure compliance with global trade regulations, including U.S. Customs regulations, import/export laws, and international trade agreements.
  • Prepare and submit import/export documentation (e.g., entry summaries, commercial invoices, packing lists) to ensure timely and accurate customs clearance.
  • Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and assess duties, taxes, and trade program eligibility (e.g., USMCA, GSP).
  • Maintain and monitor records of import/export activity to ensure audit readiness and compliance with customs regulations.
  • Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal teams to resolve import/export issues and ensure smooth cross-border transactions.
  • Perform financial and statistical analysis for clients, including Fortune 500 companies, top ranked law firms, non-profits, and government organizations.
  • Conduct interviews with clients’ executive leadership teams to gather focused insight into their company’s global customs and international trade operations.
  • Undertake in-depth company, industry, and market research.
  • Write client reports, speak at seminars, and prepare industry articles.

Essential Traits

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration or Management (with a concentration in Economics or Finance), or other degree (with a minimum of four junior and/or senior level courses in Economics or Finance) from an accredited university or college.
  • Expected graduation date between December 2027 and August 2028.
  • Major GPA of 3.2.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail; ability to manage time and workflow and work on multiple assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to focus on quality work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that help represent diverse communities.
