Project Description

The internship provides exposure to Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) or Wet Process manufacturing environments with structured learning projects focused on process operation improvement, automation concepts, and business process optimization. The program offers hands-on learning through analysis, data interpretation, and project execution under the guidance of experienced engineers. Students will study existing process flows, identify improvement opportunities, and develop proposals to enhance process robustness, efficiency, and standardization.

Project Scope

  • Study and understand CMP or Wet process flows, equipment interfaces, and key process performance indicators.
  • Learn and apply safety requirements, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality control frameworks relevant to semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Analyze process and equipment performance data to identify trends, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop automation or digitalization concepts that improve process monitoring, reporting, or workflow efficiency.
  • Perform structured reviews of existing SOPs and quality defense lines, and propose optimization recommendations.
  • Document findings and present improvement proposals to engineering stakeholders.

Learning Opportunities

  • Exposure to CMP or Wet process fundamentals in a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of process control concepts, equipment-process interaction, and manufacturing data analysis.
  • Experience in continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., TPM, CI frameworks).
  • Development of technical documentation, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams in a professional manufacturing setting.

Deliverables

  • Completion of at least two structured continuous improvement or TPM projects, each with:
    • Problem definition and objective
    • Data analysis or process study
    • Proposed solution or optimization concept
    • Documented findings and presentation materials
  • A final project summary report and presentation outlining learning outcomes and project impact.

Skillsets Required

  • Basic understanding of engineering principles (chemical, materials, mechanical, electrical, or related fields).
  • Interest in manufacturing processes, automation, or process improvement.
  • Data analysis, logical thinking, and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel / PowerPoint (or equivalent tools).
  • Good communication and documentation skills.
