About the Role

Welltower’s Data Scientist is a professional who turns data into value. This role collaborates with the data science team, integrating information from multiple sources to enhance business performance, and analyzes outputs from AI tools that automate processes within the company. The Data Scientist reports to the Lead Data Scientist and helps uncover information hidden in large data sets to support smarter decision-making. The primary focus includes applying data engineering and predictive analytics techniques, conducting statistical analysis, and building high-quality prediction systems integrated with the business model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Business Insights team with Welltower’s data and analytics strategy and predictive analytics applications.
  • Develop predictive models and solutions to enable data-driven analytics.
  • Select features, build and optimize classifiers using machine learning techniques.
  • Conduct data mining using state-of-the-art methods.
  • Augment company data with third-party sources as needed.
  • Analyze output from predictive analytics models to provide actionable insights for Welltower’s investment process.
  • Improve data collection procedures to capture information relevant to analytic systems.
  • Process, cleanse, and verify data integrity used for analysis.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and present results clearly.

Travel

Minimal travel to other Welltower office locations is possible.

Minimum Requirements

Experience

  • 1–3 years of post-education data science work experience.
  • Knowledge of the data and analytics landscape with at least 3 years of work experience.
  • Strong technical skills in Reporting, Programming, Predictive Modeling, and Solution Architecture.
  • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms (e.g., Neural Networks).
  • Experience with data science toolkits (R, MATLAB, Python, etc.). Proficiency in at least one is highly desirable.
  • Experience with data mining and data visualization tools (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau).
  • Solid applied statistics skills (distributions, correlation, statistical testing, regression, etc.).
  • Good communication skills and a data-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with business and technology partners.
  • Familiarity with Real Estate and Healthcare systems; experience with consolidating diverse source systems.
  • Knowledge of enterprise profitability, business planning, and forecasting.

Education

  • PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics with a focus on Predictive Analytics is required.
  • Background in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field is required.

Compensation

Salaries may vary by location. The range for this role in New York, NY is $130,000 to $160,000 plus bonus. Final compensation determinations are based on factors including experience, education, skill level, business priorities, primary office location, and expected strategic impact.
