Background
The Quantitative and Commodities Center (QCC) provides specialized advisory services to companies with commodity operations and exposure, including procurement, marketing, trading, and risk management. The QCC team combines deep industry knowledge, quantitative expertise, and relevant project experience. We assist clients with analytical support on complex commodity risk topics such as hedging, trading and procurement optimization, market risk management, reporting tools, and complex contract modeling across energy, agriculture, metals, and soft commodities.
The opportunity
EY’s QCC is excited to invite a Senior focused on risk management modeling, portfolio analysis, valuation, and data science activities. You will work on projects covering a range of commodities and commercial objectives, developing new financial models and analytics to meet client needs. You’ll be supported by a team of quantitative and commodities professionals with substantial industry experience, offering opportunities to continue developing quantitative skills throughout your career at EY. You may also collaborate with other groups within the broader commodities footprint and across EY’s service lines globally.
Responsibilities
This role requires a blend of technical, financial, and quantitative knowledge, along with strong communication and presentation skills to deliver specialized work for clients. You will focus on applying quantitative techniques to value complex commodity contracts and will often present technical topics to non-technical audiences.
- Provide a commercial industry perspective to advise clients on advanced practices, typical industry approaches, and market behavior
- Develop quantitative financial models for commodity and financial contracts, including market factor simulation techniques and various stochastic and numerical methods
- Utilize and enhance proprietary valuation models, selecting appropriate inputs and techniques
- Leverage machine learning techniques and statistical programming to analyze commodity instruments
- Present results internally and externally, using modern data visualization tools
- Write client reports detailing work performed, considerations, recommendations, and outcomes
- Problem-solve under uncertainty to adapt approaches and analytics styles to new markets and client objectives
- Collaborate within a team and independently solve new problems with a flexible approach
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with one to two years of related experience, or a graduate degree with one year of related experience in a quantitative field (quantitative finance, mathematics, statistics, financial engineering, engineering, economics and econometrics)
- Experience in VBA and at least one of R or Python; strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Familiarity with derivatives pricing models and computational finance
- Familiarity with market factor simulation techniques and a variety of stochastic and numerical methods
- Interest and experience in financial and commodity markets and related instruments
- Ability to work within budget and schedule, delivering results in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritizing multiple tasks, deadlines, and stakeholders
- Strong work ethic, communication skills, and a flexible, solution-oriented mindset
- Willingness to travel occasionally
- Ability to complete an approved certification within 2 years of hire
What we offer you

Our compensation and benefits package recognizes performance, with a base salary range of $90,800 to $149,800 across all US locations. For the New York City Metro Area, Washington State, and California (excluding Sacramento), the range is $109,000 to $170,200. Salaries are determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. Total Rewards include medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off.
