Global Markets provides a broad range of products and services including origination and syndication, Foreign Exchange/FXO, cash trading (including electronic and program trading), options, derivatives, and commodity structured products. Our relationship management teams ensure client access to all product lines globally, fostering a collaborative coverage approach across major accounts.
Job Purpose
The Associate, STIR Trader is a professional responsible for providing analytical and research support to the team, assisting with pricing, booking of deals, and daily funding of specific departments. The role utilizes diverse methods to contribute to department planning, connect people and networks, and leverage the Bank’s broader resources. The Associate, STIR Trader makes decisions on moderately complex issues, exercising independent judgment to recommend improved approaches to management. The role supports client relations by providing access and insight into various STIR markets.
Key Accountabilities
- Contribute toward maintaining and growing the STIR business in London, focusing on European currency pairs.
- Build and maintain a close relationship with the sales desk.
- Assist the senior traders within the STIR team with risk management and administrative tasks.
- Be part of the global STIR team and establish close working relationships with peers in London, Hong Kong, and Toronto.
- Keep up to date with market developments and communicate insights in a timely fashion.
- Carry out administrative tasks as required to ensure smooth business operations.
Authorities/Compliance Requirements
- As an employee of CIBC, the incumbent must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines, and controls.
Knowledge and Skills
- Some knowledge of FX and interest rate products.
- An eagerness to learn and understand risk management, liquidity provision, pricing risk, managing client flow, and interaction with clients.
- Ambitious individual who desires to be part of a small, dynamic team and has the drive to embrace a steep learning curve.
- Ability to embrace the necessary responsibilities and develop the skills to become a profitable trader making significant contributions to the desk and business as a whole.
- This is an entry-level trading role ideally suited for a candidate with up to 2 years of trading experience or equivalent thereof.
Working Conditions
- This role operates within a normal office environment with little exposure to adverse working conditions.
