This is a full-time internship programme. Leave of Absence (LOA) may be required to take on the internship.

## About the Role

SGX FX Liquidity Management & Operations is part of the SGX FX business unit under the Global Markets Division. The team is responsible for the operational health and liquidity quality of SGX CurrencyNode, SGX FX’s anonymous over-the-counter foreign exchange electronic communication network (ECN). The network connects global banks, non-bank liquidity providers, brokers and institutional investors to deep and unique FX liquidity pools across the SG1 Singapore and LD4 London data centres.

The team manages liquidity provider connectivity and performance, client onboarding and go-live execution, daily trade reconciliation with Prime Brokers, reject handling, fill ratio optimisation and venue health monitoring across all time zones.

The selected intern will support the Liquidity Management and Operations teams through internal data analysis, reporting and process improvement. This is a strictly internal-facing role. The intern will not operate production trading systems, access venue machines or liaise directly with external clients or liquidity providers.

## Key Responsibilities

### Analytics and Reporting

- Build and maintain daily and weekly internal liquidity provider performance reports covering fill rates, reject rates, response times, spread analysis and coverage gaps by currency pair and time zone.

- Analyse flow composition and trading patterns across currency pairs, time windows and client or liquidity provider segments.

- Produce clear internal summaries with observations and recommended actions for the Liquidity Management and Operations teams.

- Track and visualise venue health metrics, including quote quality, pricing consistency, liquidity provider uptime trends and anomaly detection.

- Support ad hoc deep dives into reject spikes, liquidity provider underperformance, coverage gaps and credit utilisation patterns.

### Liquidity Management Support

- Present findings and actionable recommendations directly to the Liquidity Management and Operations teams, explaining their implications and potential actions.

- Help evaluate liquidity provider pool composition, including which providers are adding value, where gaps exist and why.

- Research market microstructure topics, such as last look, latency and ECN dynamics, and brief the team.

### Process, Documentation and Automation

- Automate recurring internal tasks using Python, including report generation, data cleaning and anomaly flagging, within approved tooling and security guidelines.

- Document analytical methodologies and reporting templates for continued use beyond the internship.

- Help improve internal standard operating procedures and operational checklists used by the Liquidity Management and Operations teams.

- Support JIRA ticket tracking and project documentation.

- Contribute to internal presentations for leadership and team reviews.

## Scope Boundaries

- No direct access to venue production systems or trading GUIs.

- No direct communication with external clients, liquidity providers or Prime Brokers.

- No operation of matching engines or production infrastructure.

- All insights and recommendations will be delivered through the Liquidity Management and Operations teams.

- All tooling and automation are subject to SGX security and compliance approval processes.

## Learning Outcomes

Gain hands-on exposure to and experience with:

- How an institutional FX ECN operates, including liquidity dynamics, pricing behaviour, flow composition and venue health across SG1 and LD4.

- FX market microstructure concepts, including RFS/RFQ workflows, quote lifecycles, rejects, fill dynamics and the impact of latency on execution quality.

- How liquidity provider performance is measured and managed at venue level, including coverage, uptime, spread quality, response times and size commitments.

- How operational data translates into commercial decisions.

- How a MAS-regulated market operator balances innovation with compliance, security governance and audit-trail discipline.

- Internal stakeholder coordination across Liquidity Management, Operations, Technology, Compliance and Sales teams.

- The Singapore Exchange, Global Markets Division and SGX FX business operations.

## Requirements

- **Required:** Good written and spoken English communication skills, with the ability to turn data into clear, structured internal updates.

- **Required:** Proficiency in Python, including pandas and basic visualisation, and advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups and charting.

- **Required:** A proactive, detail-oriented and self-motivated approach, with a strong commitment to accuracy.

- **Required:** An analytical mindset, with the ability to question and interpret data rather than simply report it.

- **Required:** An interest in financial markets, FX trading mechanics or market microstructure.

- Currently pursuing a major in Finance, Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or a related field.

- Familiarity with SQL or a willingness to learn quickly.

- Exposure to AI/ML tools for data analysis and automation is an advantage.

- Basic understanding of the FIX protocol or electronic trading connectivity concepts is an advantage.

- Comfortable using PowerPoint and Word for internal documentation and presentations.

- Ability to multitask and deliver work within tight deadlines.
