Underwriters work closely with brokers, clients, and internal partners to evaluate risk, analyze financial and exposure information, and develop tailored solutions that meet clients’ unique needs. As an Underwriter, you will build expertise in risk assessment, financial analysis, and relationship management while gaining exposure to the commercial insurance industry. You will collaborate with experienced underwriting professionals and cross-functional partners, including Claims, Risk Engineering, Actuarial, and Analytics teams, to make informed, data-driven decisions and help solve complex business challenges. Opportunities may be available across several underwriting businesses, including Financial Lines, Retail Property, Retail Casualty, Lexington Property, Lexington Casualty, Alternative Channels, Distribution and Captive Solutions. Each area provides the opportunity to develop specialized underwriting knowledge while building a strong foundation for a career in commercial insurance. ## How You Will Make an Impact AIG’s Summer Interns are immersed in the day-to-day operations of a fast-moving, global insurance company. During the 9-week program, you will gain hands-on experience and insurance industry knowledge, working with leaders on dynamic projects with opportunities for challenges, learning, and achievement. Summer Interns join one of our key business teams, offering a unique opportunity to obtain core technical knowledge and professional skills in a diverse environment. In addition to meaningful on-the-job experiences, interns will attend instructor-led masterclasses, hear directly from senior leaders, and build connections through mentoring circles, networking events, and volunteering. Following completion of the internship program, interns may be considered for a role in the location where they completed their internship, with the Analyst program beginning in July 2028. ## Responsibilities - Support the evaluation and analysis of risks to help determine appropriate coverage, terms, and pricing. - Review underwriting submissions, financial information, loss history, exposure data, and other relevant materials. - Build relationships and communicate with brokers, clients, and internal business partners. - Assist with the preparation of quotes, proposals, renewals, and other underwriting documentation. - Learn to apply underwriting guidelines, appetite, and risk selection strategies. - Partner with experienced underwriters and cross-functional teams such as Claims, Actuarial, Risk Engineering, and Analytics. - Use data and analytical tools to support underwriting decisions. - Develop knowledge of AIG’s products, industry trends, market conditions, and the specific business area in which you’re placed. - Support portfolio management and help identify opportunities for profitable growth. ## Minimum Qualifications ### Education Requirements - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree to be received no later than June 2028 (unofficial transcript required upon application). ### Program Requirements - Available for the complete Summer Internship Program from June 7 through August 6, 2027. - Summer Intern positions are in-person opportunities, requiring interns to work in the office at least four days per week. ### Core Qualifications - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively in a professional environment. - Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail. - Ability to collaborate effectively, manage multiple priorities, and adapt in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. ## Preferred Qualifications - Demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement. ## Compensation For applicants in Colorado, Jersey City, and New York City, the hourly pay range for this position is $25.03 - $33.37. ## Applying to this role This 2027 Early Careers: Summer Intern, Underwriting – United States, Multiple Locations role at AIG runs through the firm's own careers portal and expects a CV and cover letter written specifically for the posting, not a portable submission carried across firms.
