Finance or investing experience isn’t necessary for success. For this internship, we are particularly interested in candidates studying towards or who already have a degree in life sciences/medicine, who want to apply that depth of knowledge to investing in health care companies. The role is mainly health care focused, and any education in life sciences, biostatistics, or medicine will be highly valued. You bring the technical understanding; we will teach you finance. As an Investment Analyst at Orbis, you will have the opportunity to develop your stock picking skills, with a focus on the health care industry in an inclusive work environment. Career development opportunities will depend on your individual talent, progression, and interests. ## Responsibilities - Conduct in-depth bottom-up fundamental research to evaluate investment ideas. - Apply your scientific and/or clinical background to develop differentiated insights across the health care value chain—for example, not just whether a trial drug works, but also how much commercial value it will create. - Articulate your views in reports and investment meetings (in both team-specific and firm-wide settings). - Participate in meetings with investor relations and management teams of companies under research. - For candidates who convert to permanent positions: maintain a notional paper portfolio of your best investment ideas to measure stock picking skill and support development. ## Qualifications & Experience - Excellent academic performance in a medicine/life sciences related discipline, including biostatistics, and chemistry/bioengineering (e.g.). - A first-class degree (predicted or achieved) at undergraduate level, or - A 2:1 degree alongside exceptional extracurricular achievement, or two or more years of full-time work experience. - Specific prior finance experience is not necessary. ## Mindset - Outstanding personal ethics and judgement. - Intellectual curiosity and the ability to think differently from the crowd. - Strong self-motivation and the ability to thrive in an unstructured environment. - Analytical thinking. - Willingness to translate scientific and clinical knowledge depth into commercial and investment judgement. - Interest in a permanent position, following a successful internship. ## Application Instructions To complete your application, please submit your **resume**, **cover letter**, and **transcripts** (all post-secondary to this point; unofficial are accepted).
