As a multi-asset exchange operating equity, fixed income and derivatives markets to the highest regulatory standards, SGX provides listing, trading, clearing, settlement, depository and data services. SGX offers a fast-paced environment where interns gain insights into the Exchange business and the finance value chain. Interns are involved in real-time work from Day 1. Note: Leave of Absence (LOA) may be required to take on the internship. ### Unit/Team Overview The Baltic Exchange Asia team has broad functions similar to the London HQ. The Singapore office is the regional headquarters for the organisation and produces freight indices, has a sales and marketing team including an events function, and an escrow service that is unique to this location. ## Learning Outcomes - Gain hands-on experience across the different functions of the Baltic Exchange. - Learn about membership services, the methodologies behind global benchmark freight production, and sales and marketing strategies. - Support the daily functions of the freight production, membership, escrow, and sales teams. - Build knowledge of the fundamentals of freight markets through market research. - Assist with projects such as sales campaigns and marketing events. - Depending on the candidate’s preference, have the opportunity to work with quantitative analytics, write white papers, meet clients, or co-organise members’ events. ## Job Description - Build and maintain various Excel files and dashboards to monitor freight rates, trading volumes and exchange data. - Support, enhance and develop analytics on freight data, benchmark data and internal metrics. - Research the regional shipping industry and support marketing and sales strategies and campaigns. - Collect and analyse trade data for research reports, news articles and white papers. - Assist with content, layout and design of marketing materials (presentations, brochures, videos) to drive trading activity. - Organise industry events, including workshops, roundtables, seminars and forums. ## Knowledge and Skill Requirements - Fluency in English (written and spoken) and proficiency in Chinese to liaise with Chinese clients. - Proficiency in MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint), including VBA/macros. - Good to have: shipping/maritime knowledge. - Good to have: knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g., C, C++, Java, C#, Python, Groovy, Perl) and SQL. - Good to have: interest in marketing, client outreach, and digital/social media knowledge. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with willingness and ability to work in a team. - Ability to multitask, be process-driven, think innovatively and independently, and enjoy working under pressure and tight timelines. ## Applying to this role This Intern - Freight Markets (Spring 2027, Jan to Jun) role at SGX runs through the firm's own careers portal and expects a CV and cover letter written specifically for the posting, not a portable submission carried across firms.
