You will gain exposure to pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and the associated engineering, cGMP, regulatory, and production requirements that govern equipment performance and compliance. The role provides opportunities to work across multiple engineering disciplines, including process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. You will contribute to the site Reliability Program under the Hoshin framework, supporting initiatives focused on improving equipment availability, reducing recurring failures, and optimizing overall asset performance. ## Reliability & Asset Health - Execute reliability programs to improve equipment availability, reduce repeat failures, and optimize lifecycle cost. - Drive systematic defect elimination by providing data analysis on failure modes of recurring equipment issues. - Track reliability KPIs (e.g., unplanned downtime, repeat failure rate, MTBF/MTTR) and communicate performance trends and improvement actions. ## Asset & Spare Parts Management - Develop and maintain the critical spares strategy (criticality, min/max, lead time mitigation, alternates) in collaboration with Supply Chain/warehouse, original equipment manufacturers, and equipment owners. - Ensure asset master data accuracy in CMMS to enable effective planning, execution, and analysis of maintenance work. ## Maintenance Excellence - Assist Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation (MEI) engineering by providing troubleshooting support to increase operational efficiencies and optimize maintenance expenses. - Support unit operations and/or running utility plant equipment. - Identify, execute, and improve routine work activities. - Assist in monitoring performance and implementing Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) improvement initiatives (e.g., audits, training). - Participate in SHE, Business Compliance, cGMP, and other compliance-related matters, where applicable. - Supervise and oversee third-party contractors, where applicable. - Complete job assignments by the supervisor pertaining to equipment, system, documentation, or housekeeping. - Complete other tasks as assigned by supervisors. ## cGMP Standards - Understand and follow appropriate training in cGMP principles. - Demonstrate basic knowledge of the principles and importance of cGMP regulations and Worldwide Quality Standards related to assigned work execution. - Provide solutions to routine and a wide variety of problems ranging from simple to moderate in scope and complexity. - Develop the ability to assess situations and use the escalation process. ## Environment, Health & Safety - Demonstrate safety behavior through basic understanding of all safety procedures and standards. - Seek opportunities to improve company SHE standards and move toward a goal of an injury-free workplace and a better environment. ## Qualifications Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical / Mechanical / Mechatronics / Electrical or Instrumentation & Control Engineering) or equivalent. ## Technical Competencies - Develop awareness of Engineering and Compliance standards through assigned tasks and training. - Develop awareness of the practical application of theoretical engineering knowledge. - Develop understanding of planning related to the assigned engineering role. - Assist with planning activities related to the assigned engineering role. - Assist in providing data to support risk-based decisions. - Develop competency in root cause analysis. ## Professional Competencies - Independent, resilient, and resourceful. - Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking. - Good oral/written communication and interpersonal skills. - Continuous learning mindset. - Collaborative and able to influence without authority. - Strong work ethic and ownership mindset. - Provide and present information clearly and unambiguously. ## Required Skills - Adaptability - Availability Management - Biopharmaceutical Operations - CAD Proficiency - Contractor Management - Corporate Ethics - Data Analysis - Engineering Principles - Engineering Standards - Equipment Management - Estimation and Planning - Experimentation - Maintenance Scheduling - Operating Principles - Operations Support - Operation and Maintenance - Planning - Process Optimization - Professional Engineering - Project Management - Reliability Improvement - Root Cause Identification ## Employee Status Intern/Co-op (Fixed Term) ## Job Posting End Date 11/30/2026 ## Applying to this role This Reliability Engineer Intern role at MSD runs through the firm's own careers portal and expects a CV and cover letter written specifically for the posting, not a portable submission carried across firms.
