Interns have the opportunity to work on teams, be exposed to significant firm-wide projects within their respective business areas, and support a range of deals with clients. Participants work on a variety of projects, including building financial models, developing client presentations, conducting research, and participating in client meetings—helping to improve their understanding of the global banking industry. As SMBC continues to grow its presence in the Americas, the firm is seeking talent to support its business goals and encourage ongoing professional development. ## Desk Description The Corporate Marketing & Communications (CM&C) team promotes the bank and amplifies the SMBC brand while protecting its integrity and reputation. The Communications Team develops and deploys strategic plans that guide internal employee communications, media relations, social media, and SMBC Americas Division’s internal and external websites to raise the bank’s profile and support business goals. The Communications intern will gain firsthand experience creating content for social media, digital signage, and town halls, while assisting with the preparation for media interviews. This role is part of a collaborative team that strategically amplifies SMBC brand awareness and positioning, leveraging communications channels to promote SMBC’s capabilities, expertise, and culture. The intern will also engage with and learn from SMBC business stakeholders, colleagues, and industry insiders to obtain real-world job experience. ## Program Details ### How the Program Works The Summer Intern Program is designed for students who have completed their junior year. This 10-week program commences in June and includes: - Orientation - Training with on-the-desk experience - Senior Speaker Series - Japanese cultural activities - Social networking activities - Volunteer Day with a local nonprofit - Mentorship opportunity with both a junior and senior mentor at SMBC ### Personal and Professional Attributes - Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree from an accredited university, with a graduation date of December 2027 or May 2028 - Excellent academic record - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely - Ability to interact with clients in a professional and mature manner - Outstanding ethics, integrity, and judgment - Intellectual curiosity - Comfort in and commitment to a strong teamwork environment - Highly organized, detail oriented, self-driven, and motivated - Advanced Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills, with the ability to quickly learn new software applications ### Hybrid Work Model SMBC employees participate in a hybrid workforce model, providing opportunities to work from home and from an SMBC office. Employees are required to live within a reasonable commuting distance of their office location. Candidates will learn more about the specific hybrid work schedule during the interview process.
