Interns will work on a variety of projects, including building financial models, developing client presentations, conducting research, and participating in client meetings to deepen their understanding of the global banking industry. As SMBC continues to grow its presence in the Americas, it seeks talent to support business goals and encourage ongoing professional development. ## Desk Description SMBC is looking for Summer Interns to join its Finance & Strategic Planning Department on the following teams: ### Corporate Treasury The Treasury function manages capital actions and capital planning, executes capital stress testing, and monitors ALM & Balance Sheet Management. This includes IRR management, FRM (Financial Resource Management) hedging activity, NII and economic value stress testing, FTP, CFF, and liquidity management. ### Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) FP&A manages financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting for the organization. The team provides senior management with a forecast of the organization’s income statement and operating performance. This informs progress on the organization’s strategic plans and uses data to advise management on improving performance, mitigating risk, or identifying new growth opportunities. ## Key Skills & Interests (FP&A Interns) - Financial modeling and analysis - Strong understanding of accounting principles - Proficiency in financial reporting and capital analysis - Financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting - Data analysis and interpretation to inform key business decisions - Effective communication and collaboration ## Program Details ### How the Program Works The Summer Intern Program is designed for students who have completed their junior year. This 10-week program commences in June and includes: - Orientation - Training with on-the-desk experience - Senior Speaker Series - Japanese cultural activities - Social networking activities - Volunteer Day with a local nonprofit - Mentorship opportunity with both a junior and senior mentor at SMBC ### Required Attributes - Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree from an accredited university with a graduation date of December 2027 or May 2028; excellent academic record - Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely - Ability to interact with clients in a professional and mature manner - Outstanding ethics, integrity, and judgment - Intellectual curiosity - Comfort with and commitment to a strong teamwork environment - Highly organized, detail-oriented, self-driven, and motivated - Advanced Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills, and the ability to quickly learn new software applications ## Hybrid Work Model SMBC uses a hybrid workforce model that allows employees to work from home and from an SMBC office. Employees are required to live within a reasonable commuting distance of their office location. Candidates will learn more about the specific hybrid work schedule during the interview process.
