The successful candidate will become part of the Castrol ring-fence ahead of the Castrol divestment later in 2026. From the point of the divestment, you will be employed fully by Castrol and no longer be a bp employee. ## Role Overview The Senior Laboratory Technician reports to the QC Manager and performs quality control tests on lube oils, bulk base oils, additives, and decanting products. ## What You Will Deliver - Perform quality control tests on production samples and incoming additives and bulk base oils to ensure products meet required specifications. - Perform QA testing such as ARV, Flash Point (PMCC), and Rust Test. - Prepare and maintain accurate records of test reports and interpret and analyse test results. - Prepare laboratory reagents and standardise them for use. - Implement good housekeeping to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. - Ensure laboratory equipment and apparatus are in proper working condition for use. - Be responsible for periodic instrument and equipment calibration to maintain good working order. - Assist in commissioning of equipment to ensure it is fully operational and reliable for testing. - Ensure correct testing results are generated. - Assist in troubleshooting at the Blending Section. - Monitor laboratory glassware, chemicals, gases, and approved miscellaneous items; ensure sufficient stock of reagents and chemicals at all times. - Coordinate and liaise closely with operations staff on production blending and filling status. - Ensure accurate and timely generation of work orders. - Update production test data for the Certificate of Analysis and monthly Summary Report. - Conduct warehouse inspections to obtain relevant information such as COA to support product quality and proper documentation. - Conduct pilot blends when there is a new or changed product formulation. - Maintain cupboards and store-room areas for production record files and retention samples. - Serve as Area Authority, Issuing Authority, and Performing Authority for the Cockpit Permit-To-Work System. ## What You Will Need to Be Successful - 1 year of experience in a similar capacity and manufacturing environment. - A recognised diploma in Chemical Process Technology / Chemical Engineering or Chemistry related. - Understanding of HSE requirements relating to laboratory operations. - Understanding of test procedures and ability to perform tests competently. - Ability to carry out day-to-day laboratory activities and complete assigned duties. - Team-focused mindset. - Stand-by availability from time to time if overtime is required in the laboratory. - Ability to adhere to laboratory procedures, safety rules, and risk assessments. ## Key Technical Competencies - Ability to perform QC testing. - Ability to prepare reagents for testing. - Ability to collect data against specifications. - Ability to accept or reject data. - Ability to monitor data trending. - Ability to perform instrument calibrations and performance checks. - Understanding of pilot blend formulation and ability to perform QC tests. - Understanding and ability to perform mathematical calculations. - Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and identify potential causes. - Document data entry and filing. ## Travel Requirement No travel is expected with this role. ## Relocation Assistance This role is not eligible for relocation. ## Remote Type This position is not available for remote working. ## Skills - Control of Work - Cost-conscious decision-making - Maintenance general - Procedures and practices - Reliability general - Risk Management - Safety Leadership - Turnaround general ## Benefits and Culture (Summary) - A culture that values diverse and unified teams, achievements, and giving back to the environment. - Opportunities to join social communities and networks. - Learning and development opportunities to build your career path. - Life and health insurance, a medical care package, and other benefits. ## Applying to this role This Senior Laboratory Technician - Castrol role at BP runs through the firm's own careers portal and expects a CV and cover letter written specifically for the posting, not a portable submission carried across firms.
