Cellular Field Design Engineer, Early Career

At Apple, new ideas quickly become products, services, and customer experiences. The Apple Field Design Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated, technical individual to help test unreleased Apple products.

You will evaluate the latest iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch hardware systems in the field—from early prototypes through final products—across different network and wireless technologies. Responsibilities include creating and evolving performance metrics, and performing post-processing and analysis of device logs captured in the field.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the latest iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch hardware/software systems in the field, from early prototypes to final products.
• Conduct early evaluations of prototypes and hardware systems across different wireless technologies.
• Create and evolve performance metrics; perform post-processing and analysis of trace logs from the field.
• Run focused experiments related to RF/OTA performance, acoustics, thermals, GPS validation, and NFC validation.
• Work with hardware/software development teams and other cross-functional teams to identify issues impacting wireless performance.
• Perform deep-dive analysis of internal logs to understand issues and identify root causes of hardware/system problems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with a focus on telecommunications/wireless/RF.
• Understanding of cellular and wireless technologies, including 5G NR, LTE/LTE-A, and UMTS.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; detail-oriented and analytical; able to work independently.
• Ability to travel locally and internationally.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Deep understanding of the cellular protocol stack, from LTE PHY/MAC to higher layers, including call processing.
• Strong drive and ambition; able to take on obstacles in innovative ways.
• Knowledge of antenna/RF design.
• Basic scripting experience (Shell, Perl, Python, or Matlab).
