Economists at Amazon partner closely with senior management, business stakeholders, scientists and engineers, and economist leadership to solve key business problems across areas including Amazon Web Services, Kindle, Prime, inventory planning, international retail, third-party merchants, search, pricing, labor and employment planning, benefits (health, retirement, etc.), and beyond. Economists build econometric models using world-class data systems and apply approaches from applied macro/time series, applied micro, econometric theory, empirical IO, empirical health, labor, public economics and related fields. You will work in a fast-moving environment to solve business problems as part of a cross-functional team embedded within a business unit or a central science and economics organization. You will be expected to develop techniques that apply econometrics to large data sets, address quantitative problems, and contribute to the design of automated systems around the company. ## Responsibilities - Develop econometric models and apply quantitative techniques to large data sets to address key business problems across multiple Amazon business areas. - Collaborate with senior management, business stakeholders, scientists, engineers, and economics leadership to solve problems in areas such as pricing, inventory, labor, health outcomes, auctions, marketing strategies, and contract design. - Work in fast-moving environments, either as part of a cross-functional team embedded within a business unit or within a central science and economics organization. - Advance methods that apply econometrics to real-world business questions and contribute to the design of automated systems. ## Basic Qualifications - PhD in Economics, Quantitative Marketing, Finance, or a closely related field. ## Preferred Qualifications - Deep knowledge of econometric analysis of models that estimate fundamental preferences and strategic effects. - Strong background in statistics methodology, applications to business problems, and/or big data. - Experience analyzing pricing, competition, labor decisions, health care outcomes, auctions, marketing strategies, advertising, contract design, and game theory. - Ability to work in a fast-paced business environment and maintain a strong research track record. - Effective verbal and written communication skills with both economists and non-economist audiences. ## Equal Opportunity Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. ## Fair Chance & Local Ordinances Los Angeles County applicants: Job duties include working safely and cooperatively, maintaining standards under stress, communicating effectively, and following laws and company policies.
