Overview

We are seeking detail-oriented, organized, and responsible individuals who are eager to learn how to apply causal inference skills to real-world problems. The intern will work in Amazon Ads measurement and incrementality, developing models to quantify bias between observational and causal conversion path rate metrics.

Program Details

Our PhD Economist Internship Program offers hands-on experience in applied economics, supported by mentorship, structured feedback, and professional development. Interns work on real business and research problems, building skills that prepare them for full-time economist roles at Amazon and beyond. You will learn how to build data sets and perform applied econometric analysis in collaboration with economists, scientists, and product managers. These skills translate well into writing applied chapters in your dissertation and provide work experience that may help with placement.

These are full-time positions at 40 hours per week, with compensation awarded on an hourly basis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop models to quantify bias between observational and causal conversion path rate metrics in Amazon Ads measurement and incrementality.
  • Build data sets and perform applied econometric analyses in collaboration with economists, scientists, and product managers.
  • Contribute to real business and research problems that support decision making and strategy.
  • Draft applied sections of research or dissertation-related work to illustrate practical implementations.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SQL or Python
  • Currently enrolled in an advanced year of a Ph.D. program in Economics, specializing in applied microeconomics with a focus on reduced-form causal inference

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in applied economic analysis with big data, causal inference, machine learning, and data science

Compensation & Location

The starting pay for this position is listed below. Final starting pay will be based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
