Learn more about our benefits. ## Position We are seeking a highly motivated Chemist / Process Engineer (NCG) with a strong academic background in chemistry and materials science to support materials and thin‑film process development for next‑generation semiconductor technologies. This role offers hands‑on exposure to advanced deposition processes and strong growth opportunities in both materials and process engineering. ## Key Responsibilities - Devise precursor and deposition strategies and associated intellectual property. Design and develop new precursors and chemical processes to create, remove, or clean thin films for next-generation semiconductors. - Design, execute, and optimize thin‑film deposition processes, including CVD, ALD, and PVD technologies, under guidance from senior engineers and scientists. - Perform thin‑film growth or deposition experiments and support early-stage process and material development, characterization, and optimization. - Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental and process data; document results to support development decisions. - Prepare and execute project deliverables from planning to implementation. Prioritize activities to achieve on-time and within-budget performance objectives for the project. - Troubleshoot root causes of project development obstacles and engage the business unit and broader team members to implement proposed solutions. ## Functional Knowledge - Foundational knowledge and working experience in thin‑film deposition techniques such as CVD, ALD, MOCVD, PECVD, and/or PVD (e.g., sputtering). - Experience with thin‑film and surface characterization techniques (e.g., XPS, AFM, SEM, TEM, ellipsometry, SIMS, XRD). - Experience with electrochemistry or plating processes is a plus, including electroplating, electroless plating, additive chemistry, electrochemical characterization, batteries, and related film characterization. - Experience or academic exposure to 2D materials (e.g., graphene, TMDs) growth, characterization, device integration is a plus. - Basic understanding of vacuum systems, plasma processes, and thin‑film tool operation, with willingness to learn hardware and process troubleshooting. - Solid fundamentals in chemistry, materials science, and chemical reactions at material interfaces. ## Business Expertise - Basic understanding of how chemical and process development supports product performance, manufacturability, and customer requirements. - Willingness to learn semiconductor industry practices and how development efforts transition toward scalable processes. ## Collaboration & Learning - Works effectively within multidisciplinary teams of chemists, process engineers, and tool owners. - Demonstrates strong learning agility, openness to feedback, and increasing technical independence. ## Problem Solving - Applies structured thinking to solve routine technical and process problems with guidance. - Shows curiosity and initiative in translating chemical understanding into process improvements. ## Impact - Impacts a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams; works within broad guidelines and policies. ## Interpersonal Skills - Communicates experimental results and process observations clearly through technical reports and discussions. - Collaborates effectively across functions. ## Education Doctoral degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics ## Work Location Applied Materials - NUS Corporate Lab (NUS E6 building) ## Additional Information - **Time Type:** Full time - **Employee Type:** New College Grad - **Travel:** Yes, 10% of the time - **Relocation Eligible:** Yes Applied Materials is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
