## Internship Program Overview

Our interns and co-ops are GF’s entry-level talent pipeline across the globe. The program aims to provide students with a meaningful work experience that equips them with the skills to pursue a career in the fast-paced and growing semiconductor industry after graduation. As an intern at GF, you’ll receive one-on-one mentorship, growth-focused assignments, professional development opportunities, and chances to network with executives.

## Summary of Role

GF’s Research and Development and Product Line Organizations are seeking students with experience in Silicon Photonics (SiPh). We are looking for students with experience in SiPh device design, simulations, and layout. Experience with simulation tools such as Lumerical, FlexCompute, TCAD, or SPICE is a plus but not required. Projects may include SiPh optical filters, modulators, fiber couplers, and the use of inverse design methodologies, depending on interest and GF priority at the time of hire. Successful applicants will join the gfLABS team and collaborate with experts in silicon photonics process integration, test, and design. Masters or Ph.D. students are strongly preferred.

## Essential Responsibilities

  
- In-depth study or coursework in optical materials and material characterization
  
- Understanding of optical/electrical device physics and high-speed operation
  
- High-speed RF design and testing
  
- Inverse design methods
  
- Proficiency with simulation tools such as Lumerical, FlexCompute, TCAD, SPICE
  
- Understanding of Micro-Electronics Process Integration
  
- Understanding of Silicon Photonics, optical interconnects, and system architectures
  
- Willingness to engage in cross-functional teams spanning process integration, test, design, design enablement, modelling, and product engineering
  
- Communication of project status

## Other Responsibilities

  
- Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs

## Required Qualifications

  
- Education – Actively pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in engineering or a related field through an accredited degree program during the internship
  
- Must have at least an overall 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing
  
- Language Fluency – English (written and verbal)
  
- Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the 3–4 month internship

## Preferred Qualifications

  
- Prior related internship or co-op experience
  
- Demonstrated leadership experience in the workplace, school projects, competitions, etc.
  
- Project management skills, including the ability to innovate and execute on meaningful solutions and navigate ambiguity
  
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
  
- Strong planning and organizational skills

## Expected Salary Range

$20.00 - $40.00
