Western Digital publishes two named early-career tracks on its students and grads page:

• Internship Program — 12-week paid internships across engineering, operations, finance, sales & marketing, and people solutions, open at the Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels; eligibility requires the candidate to remain enrolled with at least one term remaining after the internship.
• Early Talent Program — full-time entry-level roles open to candidates who graduated within the past 24 months and for whom the role would be their first professional position using their degree.

Both programs align to the firm's hybrid site-based working arrangement with in-office collaboration days. Positions are posted continuously on the firm's SmartRecruiters job board; the firm does not publish a single cycle-wide application window, so each intern role lists its own application timing and an applicant should monitor the board rather than wait for one deadline.

Following the 21 February 2025 separation of Sandisk, Western Digital is a hard-disk-drive pure-play: the firm no longer carries the flash and SSD business it acquired in 2016. The firm reported $9.52 billion in fiscal 2025 revenue, up 51% year-over-year, and per its FY2025 10-K the cloud end market accounted for 88% of total revenue with three customers each contributing more than 10% — concentration in hyperscalers buying nearline HDDs for AI data infrastructure. The firm is headquartered in San Jose. For an early-career engineer, this is a hyperscaler-aligned hardware business with concentrated customer exposure rather than a consumer-electronics or mixed-storage one: work clusters in HDD media physics, manufacturing, firmware, and data-centre integration instead of SSD or NAND, and the role-set tracks demand from a small set of cloud buyers rather than a broad consumer market.
