Trafigura runs three distinct two-year Graduate Programmes: Commercial, Development and Technical, each structured as a sequence of rotations rather than a single fixed role.

• Commercial (Geneva, Houston, Singapore): one month of remote summer school, then two six-month rotations on the Deals Desk and in Operations, then 12 months as a Trader Assistant on a specific commodity desk.
• Development (Calgary, Geneva, Montevideo, Shanghai, Singapore): structured rotations of eight to twelve months across Deals Desk and Operations, plus Trade Finance in Montevideo, Shanghai and Singapore.
• Technical (Geneva only, recruited every two years): four six-month rotations across Trading IT, Data Science & Engineering and Research Analysis.

Three tracks on different cycles means the entry point that fits a given background will not always be recruiting in the same year as the other two: Technical, in particular, opens only once every two years.

Trafigura is employee-owned rather than listed or held by outside shareholders; roughly 1,400 of its own staff hold equity in the group, according to Wikipedia's sourced financial summary. Independent analysis there ranks it third by volume among global physical commodities traders, behind Vitol and Glencore. The firm's own careers hub reports 14,500 employees across more than 50 offices and 130+ nationalities, with over 210 international staff transfers in 2025 alone.

An employee-ownership structure ties pay and progression more directly to firm performance than at a conventional shareholder-owned employer, and the transfer volume signals that joining one office is not a single-country commitment: rotation across geographies is a normal part of a multi-year career here, not an exception.
