Shell's UK Graduate Programme runs a two-stage process. Stage one is a Virtual Job Try-out plus an On-Demand video interview, the two together taking roughly 40 minutes and recorded inside seven days of the invitation. Stage two is an online final assessment: a case study session and a live interview, both run by the same two Shell employees. A 10-month re-application rule then applies, per the students and graduates FAQ: any further Shell graduate application inside that window is auto-progressed (or auto-regretted) on the outcome of the first. That rule converts the application into a single binding decision per cycle — a candidate weighing multiple Shell paths needs to commit to one before pressing submit, because a regret locks the others for ten months.

Shell offers two main early-career routes:

• Shell Graduate Programme: a three-year programme across four business paths — Trading & Supply, Commercial, Technical, and Global Functions (the UK page splits Finance out as a fourth path). Trading & Supply is structured as two 18-month rotations across operations, analytics, risk, compliance and business development, ending in a Roundtable assessment before the candidate joins a permanent line of business
• Shell Assessed Internship Programme: 10 to 12 weeks in a single business area for students in the final two years of study, structured around one major project, a formal mid-term review and an End-of-Internship Review; a successful intern can convert directly into a full-time graduate offer

The Assessed Internship uses the same Virtual Job Try-out and Final Assessment funnel as the Graduate Programme. For a penultimate-year student the internship is therefore the tested route into the graduate scheme, and a successful conversion shortcuts the full graduate assessment a year later.

Shell publishes a dedicated graduate path into Trading & Supply, one of the largest energy trading organisations in the world with hubs in London, Houston, Singapore, Dubai and Rotterdam — the trading-floor track is treated as a first-class graduate route alongside Commercial, Technical and Global Functions, not a post-conversion specialism. The graduate programme runs at least three years, longer than the typical UK two-year scheme, and ends in a programme-level review before the next role is assigned. The four paths are filled on separate selection tracks, so applying to Trading & Supply is operationally a different application from Commercial or Technical — selecting the path is a separate piece of work to writing the application itself.
