Riot's Emerging Talent Programs run as four distinct regional internships rather than a single global scheme:

• US Summer Internship, 10-12 weeks, remote across the Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area and St. Louis teams, with a one-week visit to the LA headquarters; multiple start dates clustered in the first and fourth week of May and the second week of June
• Sydney Internship, approximately 14 weeks, hybrid, currently Software Engineering only, with starts typically in Q3

Riot does not run a separate full-time graduate scheme; the firm directs students who have already graduated to its standard jobs board. For a student timing applications across multiple game studios, this splits into one big season (the US summer programme) and several rolling regional windows that move on different timelines from one another.

Riot's published intern eligibility criteria require candidates to already be authorized to work in the country of the role, in every region:

• US Summer Internship: "must be eligible to work in the country that you reside in during this remote program"
• Sydney: "must be legally authorized to work in Australia"
• EMEA: "must be authorized to work in the country where the job you are applying to is based"
• Latin America: "must be authorized to work in Mexico or Brazil to be considered for a role in the respective office"

The internship programmes therefore do not provide visa sponsorship; an applicant without existing work authorization in the relevant country is effectively gated out of that region's intern role. For an international student deciding where to apply, the choice of region is determined first by where work authorization is already in place, not by which team is the strongest fit.

Per Riot's US Summer Internship FAQ, applications for the US programme open in September and are evaluated on a rolling basis, with intern start dates clustered in the first and fourth week of May and the second week of June. The three other regional programmes are not on a fixed cycle:

• Sydney Internship: typically starts in Q3, with roles posted ad-hoc when Software Engineering openings open
• EMEA Internship: rolling, with start date and duration defined per job description
• Latin America Internship: rolling, with start date defined per job description

A student outside the US therefore needs to monitor the jobs board continuously rather than wait for a single application window. Within the US, the rolling-review note means earlier submissions are read against a fuller remaining slate of roles, so the September opening is the strong-signal point in the cycle.

Riot is the studio behind League of Legends, VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics and Arcane, and its emerging-talent programme is unusually broad for a single game studio:

• Four regional intern programmes — US, Sydney, EMEA and Latin America — rather than a single HQ-only intake, with offices in more than 20 cities including Los Angeles, Dublin, Berlin, Singapore, Shanghai and São Paulo
• All interns are paid, with an assigned mentor, structured program events and a small "Play Fund" perk
• The US Summer programme is remote with one in-person week at the Los Angeles headquarters, an unusual hybrid format for a tier-one game studio
• For technical roles the selection includes a take-home coding test in any object-oriented language of the candidate's choice, with the firm publishing its own preparation guide ahead of each cycle

For a candidate prioritising one game-studio application among many, the practical consequence is geographic reach: Riot is reachable from regions where most game-studio internships are US-only, so an EMEA, APAC or Latin America applicant who already has local work authorization has a viable route in.
