Niantic Spatial

Niantic Spatial launched as an independent company in March 2025, spun out of Niantic with $250 million in funding, $200 million from Niantic's own balance sheet and $50 million from Scopely as part of Scopely's $3.5 billion acquisition of Niantic's games business, including Pokémon GO (Day One for Niantic Spatial; PocketGamer.biz). CEO John Hanke and CTO Brian McClendon previously built Keyhole, the mapping startup Google acquired and turned into Google Earth and Google Maps (GeekWire). The company organizes its product line into four stages, Capture, Reconstruct, Localize, and Understand, and sells to robotics, public-sector, and energy customers rather than building consumer apps. For a candidate weighing a limited set of applications, this is a second run at the same mapping problem by a team with one prior exit in it, this time aimed at industrial and government buyers instead of a consumer product.
