Markel runs four early-career tracks across its US and international early-careers pages:

• US summer internship: paid, 12 full-time weeks (roughly May to August), one functional area per intern (accounting and finance, claims, HR, IT, marketing, operations, sales, or underwriting), with a dedicated mentor buddy and two formal performance reviews.
• US underwriting training program: post-graduate, combining in-person training across US locations with on-the-job training and one-on-one mentorship through the first 12 months.
• International graduate programmes: permanent from day one, with rotations or secondments, running in the UK (Leeds and London), Europe (Munich), and Asia-Pacific.
• UK apprenticeship and industrial placement/internship: a non-university entry route plus a yearlong placement or eight-week paid summer internship, both based in London.

Four different entry points, each with its own eligibility bar, mean the US internship and the UK apprenticeship are not interchangeable: one requires current university enrollment, the other explicitly does not.

Its international graduate and apprenticeship roles are permanent from day one rather than a fixed-term rotational contract, and its US summer internship pairs a single functional-area placement with a named mentor buddy, two formal performance reviews, and a lunch with members of the executive team. Three regional cohorts starting within a ten-week window means a candidate eligible for more than one geography is running parallel applications against different regional deadlines rather than a single decision.
