The Student Researcher posting explicitly notes the program is "non-conversion eligible," so it does not function as a return-offer pipeline; candidates targeting a full-time DeepMind or Google role need to apply separately to those listings.

For the Winter/Summer 2026 cycle, Google DeepMind's Student Researcher openings are posted on Google Careers. The BS/MS US listing states the anticipated application window is open until 17 July 2026, reviewed on a rolling basis and may close earlier once projects fill; start dates run January through July. A parallel PhD US listing runs the same shape. Because review is rolling and projects fill from earliest qualified applications, a submission sent close to the stated deadline is competing against months of earlier-reviewed candidates.

DeepMind sits inside Google's full research-and-product stack, building both foundation models (Gemini, Veo, Gemma) and applied-science systems (AlphaFold, WeatherNext) on Google-designed chips and infrastructure, per its careers page. Co-founder Demis Hassabis and director John Jumper were awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for AlphaFold's prediction of protein structures, recognition rooted in basic-science output rather than product launches. The Student Researcher Program is also structured unlike a traditional summer internship: flexible 12 to 24 weeks, start dates spanning January through July, and non-conversion-eligible by design. For candidates whose goal is publishable research rather than a return offer, that combination rewards a different application strategy than a peer firm's fixed summer cohort.
