Flox

Flox was spun out of the D. E. Shaw group's internal Nix tooling: co-founder Michael Brantley built the original toolchain to help the firm's engineers adopt Nix, and the company was then incubated through DESCOvery, D. E. Shaw's venture studio. It has since raised a $16.5 million Series A led by NEA (announced February 2023) and, on 25 September 2025, a $25 million Series B led by Addition, with the D. E. Shaw group, NEA, Hetz Ventures and Illuminate Financial also participating. Backing that includes the same original venture studio across both rounds, roughly two and a half years apart, is a more specific continuity signal than a generic "well-funded" claim, and it is worth weighing when prioritising among early-stage developer-infrastructure employers, where funding runway varies far more than at larger, established firms.
