Centrica's early-career pathways cover four routes:

• Graduate Programme: two- to three-year rotations across nine tracks – Business Management, Commercial Analyst, DTS Software Engineering, Engineering, Finance, Marketing, People, Procurement, plus a separate Centrica Energy route
• Summer Internship: eight placement tracks across business, technology, engineering and corporate functions, positioned as a feeder into the Graduate Programme
• Year-in-Industry: undergraduate placements in DTS Tech, Environmental Analyst, Finance, Procurement and People
• Apprenticeships: vocational routes spanning metering, customer service, gas service, electrical and heating engineering

The Centrica Energy graduate programme is structured separately: three eight-month placements over two years, with the option to rotate between London, Aalborg and Copenhagen after the first eight months. A candidate weighing Centrica is effectively choosing between a domestic, multi-brand rotation and a cross-country rotation inside commodity trading – two different selection processes under one parent name.

The firm has committed to training 3,500 apprentices by 2030 – a target first announced with HM Government in 2021 and reinforced in 2025 with over 400 new British Gas apprenticeship roles, an unusually large vocational pipeline against the size of the graduate scheme. For a candidate the practical question is which brand a track actually places them in: a British Gas Business Management graduate and a Centrica Energy trading graduate diverge sharply from day one.
